House Votes 104-9 for Eminent Domain Protections

Raleigh, N.C. – The North Carolina House of Representatives voted 104-9 on Thursday to pass House Bill 3 ‘Eminent Domain Constitutional Protections,’ a bill that proposes a constitutional amendment to preserve the private property rights of citizens across the state.

Rep. Chuck McGrady was the lead sponsor of the bill and issued a statement:

“The constitutional amendment proposed in House Bill 3, if approved by the voters, will make it crystal clear that private property may only be condemned for public uses, like schools, roads, or utility easements.  The constitutional amendment will protect private property rights while guarantying a jury trial and just compensation in all condemnations.”
