Raleigh, N.C. – It has been nearly 24 hours since Gov. Roy Cooper announced with great fanfare that he would be rejecting the bipartisan budget supported by nearly 70 percent of all voting members of the General Assembly “today.”
Yet, for a third time in less than a week, his actions are contradicting his words, since he has not vetoed the budget. His latest doublespeak leaves the state hanging with just four days until the end of the fiscal year.

“It appears that Gov. Cooper is having second thoughts about rejecting tax relief for the middle class, a fourth consecutive teacher pay raise and relief for victims of Hurricane Matthew – but it’s not too late to retract his divisive rhetoric, apologize for calling North Carolinians who support the priorities of this budget, including members of his own party, ‘small-minded,’ and sign the bill.”
