Speaker Moore to Join President Trump for Opportunity Now Summit in Charlotte

Raleigh, N.C. – The Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives Tim Moore will join President Donald Trump and other elected officials at the Opportunity Now summit in Charlotte, N.C. on Friday.

Opportunity Now is a federal tax incentive contained in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 that promotes long-term equity investments in low-income communities designated as qualified opportunity zones.

In facilitating such investments, the Trump administration is implementing reforms to streamline regulations, encourage entrepreneurship, stimulate opportunity and mobility, expand quality educational opportunities, promote workforce development, and ensure public safety by preventing crime in economically distressed communities.

Speaker Moore praised the ‘Opportunity Now’ tax incentive to invest in distressed communities and said North Carolina’s recent reforms were working to complement the Trump administration’s economic initiatives.

“Opportunity Now is a model for prioritizing America’s economically distressed communities by encouraging targeted private investment, an approach that is working in North Carolina with historic rehabilitation tax credits, pro-growth tax and regulatory relief, and workforce training to bring jobs to low-wealth counties,” Speaker Moore said Friday.

“I appreciate President Trump and our state’s members of Congress for putting Opportunity Now in place, enacting successful economic reforms to complement its goals, and working to make the initiative a success in North Carolina and across the nation.”
