Opioid Misuse Prevention Act Approved by General Assembly

Raleigh, N.C. –  The North Carolina House of Representatives approved a final version of House Bill 243 Strengthen Opioid Misuse Prevention (STOP) Act on Tuesday, passing a comprehensive measure to address the opioid epidemic through smarter prescribing and labeling, better dispensing and stricter requirements for use of the state’s Controlled Substances Reporting System.

Is Cooper Having Second Thoughts on Veto?

Raleigh, N.C.  – It has been nearly 24 hours since Gov. Roy Cooper announced with great fanfare that he would be rejecting the bipartisan budget supported by nearly 70 percent of all voting members of the General Assembly “today.”

Yet, for a third time in less than a week, his actions are contradicting his words, since he has not vetoed the budget.  His latest doublespeak leaves the state hanging with just four days until the end of the fiscal year.

Speaker and Senate Leader Urge Gov. Cooper to Sign Bipartisan Budget

Raleigh, N.C. – The North Carolina House gave bipartisan support to final passage of the state budget  on Thursday, after Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland) and Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) urged Gov. House Leaders Praise Tax Relief in State Budget

Raleigh, N.C. – Tax policy leaders in the North Carolina House of Representatives praised their final budget agreement with the state Senate Monday night, touting a substantial increase in the zero-tax bracket as well as a reduction of the personal income tax rate to 5.25%, the lowest rate in the Southeast among states that tax earnings.
