N.C. Speaker Responds to Democrats Voting Down Teacher Pay Raises

Raleigh, N.C. – North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland) responded Tuesday after state Senate Democrats voted down a pay raise for public school teachers in every county.

Speaker Moore said the refusal by General Assembly Democrats to support pay raises for North Carolina’s education communities does a great disservice to the teachers and families working hard to succeed in the state’s public school systems.

“The Governor has vetoed pay raise after pay raise to use our public school systems as leverage to get his way on Medicaid expansion,” Speaker Moore said Tuesday.   “It’s disappointing that Democrats decided to support the Governor’s gridlock instead of North Carolina’s teachers who deserve the higher take-home pay repeatedly approved by the General Assembly.”
