N.C. Speaker Appoints House Committee Chairs on Appropriations, Finance, Rules

Raleigh, N.C. – State House members who will chair key committees on the state budget, taxes, and legislative rules of the chamber were appointed by North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland) on Wednesday.    

 Speaker Moore said he appointed chairs of the House Committees on Appropriations, Finance, and Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House, promptly on opening day so members could get to work planning for the 2019-2020 biennium:

“Years of successful tax relief and budget reform have North Carolina poised for unprecedented success, so it’s important these committee leaders get back to work building on our state’s economic momentum as soon as possible,” Moore said. 

Speaker Moore announced the following members were appointed chairs of the House Committee on Appropriations: Rep. Dean Arp (R-Union), Rep. Bill Brisson (R-Bladen), Rep. Josh Dobson (R-McDowell), Rep. John Faircloth (R-Guilford), Rep. Linda Johnson (R-Cabarrus), Rep. Donny Lambeth (R-Forsyth), Rep. Chuck McGrady (R-Henderson), and Rep. Jason Saine (R-Lincoln).

Reps. Johnson, Lambeth, and Saine, were designated senior chairs of the House Committee on Appropriations.

Speaker Moore also appointed three chairs of the House Committee on Finance: Rep. Julia Howard (R-Davie), Rep. Mitchell Setzer (R-Catawba), and Rep. John Szoka (R-Cumberland).

Rep. David Lewis was appointed chair of the House Committee on Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House.
