House Speaker Joins North Carolinians Mourning Loss of Mount Holly Police Officer Tyler Avery Herndon

Raleigh, N.C. – A North Carolina law enforcement officer tragically killed in the line of duty on Friday “will be forever remembered by our community for his sacrifice,” Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland) said Friday.

Mount Holly Police Officer Tyler Herndon died Friday morning after exchanging gunfire with a suspect while responding to a reported breaking-and-entering, authorities said today.

“It is an unthinkable tragedy for this young man, a dedicated officer who wanted to spend his career protecting public safety, to have his life taken away by a senseless act of violence,” Speaker Moore said Friday.

“Officer Herndon will be forever remembered for his sacrifice in service to North Carolina, and I urge every citizen of our state to pray for his friends and family who are suffering from this terrible loss.”

Officer Tyler Avery Herndon would have turned 26-years-old this weekend and had been with the Mount Holly Police Department for less than two years.
