General Assembly Leaders and Governor Respond to Selection of Peter Hans as UNC System President

Raleigh, N.C. – General Assembly leaders and the Governor responded Friday to the announcement that Peter Hans will be the next President of the UNC System.

Peter Hans served as the President of the North Carolina Community College System since 2018. He also previously served as chair of the University of North Carolina Board of Governors.
Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham), Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland), and Governor Roy Cooper released the following joint statement:
“Peter Hans has done tremendous work as president of the N.C. Community College System, and he’s the right choice for UNC System President.”
“That we all agree on Peter is a testament to the respect he commands as an able, competent leader.”
“The UNC System is a shining example of quality, affordable public education. It bears responsibility for North Carolina’s competitive and skilled workforce. We’re confident Peter will continue to build on the System’s centuries of success.”
