Farm Act Approved by General Assembly to Support Agriculture Communities Across North Carolina

Raleigh, N.C. – The North Carolina General Assembly approved the North Carolina Farm Act of 2019-20 this week to support agriculture communities across North Carolina.

Building on successful legislative efforts in past sessions to promote and enhance the agriculture industry in North Carolina, the North Carolina Farm Act of 2019-20 represents another step in support of farming families.

Senate Bill 315 includes the following key reforms:

  • Enhances the official branding and marketing of key North Carolina agricultural products.
  • Eases overly burdensome regulations on farmers maintaining and improving production facilities.
  • Provides flexibility for bona fide farms to advertise and offer new agri-tourism services to the public.
House Agriculture Committee Co-Chairs Rep. Jimmy Dixon (R-Duplin), Rep. William Brisson (R-Bladen), and Rep. Larry Strickland (R-Johnston) released the following joint statement:

“Now more than ever, farmers need North Carolina’s leaders to recognize the difficult challenges they face producing the food they put on the table not only for their own families, but for millions of others as well,” Reps. Dixon, Brisson, and Strickland said.

North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland) also released a statement:

“Agriculture in North Carolina is not only our largest economic driver, it sustains our communities as a vital source for the very health and wellness of our families,” Speaker Moore said.

“The General Assembly recognizes the vital role that farmers serve for this state and nation and will support their operations on behalf of all who depend on the food they provide.”
