Mandatory Minimum Sentencing Reforms Approved by North Carolina House in ‘First Step Act’

Raleigh, N.C. – The North Carolina House of Representatives approved more criminal justice reform on Wednesday. The North Carolina First Step Act encourages rehabilitation for nonviolent offenders by providing courts discretion in sentencing instead of imposing ‘mandatory minimums.’

NC. General Assembly Approves Bipartisan Elections Act of 2020

Raleigh, N.C. – The General Assembly gave final legislative approval Thursday to bipartisan elections funding and reforms by a vote of 105 to 14 to meet the challenges of COVID-19, including expanding methods to securely request absentee ballots for voters and a total prohibition on all-mail elections in North Carolina.

N.C. Legislature Sends Governor Small Business Rescue Bill Reopening Gyms, Reworking Outdoor Seating

Driver Education COVID-19 Response Bill Approved by North Carolina House of Representatives

Raleigh, N.C. – Legislation to provide temporary accommodations for students enrolled in drivers education this spring or applying for a provisional license was approved by the North Carolina House in a bipartisan 107-13 vote this week.
